Canadian Online TV Top 10: Big Bang Theory was #1 in October 2011

The “Big Bang Theory” was the most popular free online TV show in Canada in October 2011. The show captured a 2% viewership share of all free TV shows viewed online during this period. Among other top ten online shows were “Fringe”, “Terra Nova” and “The Walking Dead” in sci-fi & fantasy; “2 Broke Girls”, “Modern Family”, and “Family Guy” in comedy; and “House” in drama. Notable Canadian entries (Canadian content “CanCon” as defined by CRTC) in the top ten were “American Dad” and “New Girl”. As a whole the top ten shows captured 16% share of all show views.

There are over 1200 free online TV shows legally available in Canada through variety of channels. The top 100 shows took roughly a 50% share of all views. Notably roughly 75% of the available shows were accessed at least once via Streaming Guide during this period, leaving a substantial minority of the online shows with very little if any viewership.
